ABSTRACT: Safety guard apparatus for use, for example with pitched roofs (12), to prevent a worker slipping or falling therefrom, comprises two or more units (10) to be spaced apart and secured together by a rail (14) fastened to each unit (10). Each unit (10) has a first elongate member (16) with second and third elongate members (18,20) pivotally mounted in spaced relation thereon to be interconnectible together. The first member (16) has at one end fastening means (22) by which the unit (10) can be supported with the second member (18) serving as a tie for the third member (20) which serves as an upright guard rail support. The first member (16) has at the opposite end thereof and at right angles thereto a collar (24) through which a fourth elongate member (28) is in sliding engagement, the fourth member (28) to serve as a stay to support the unit 110) from a wall (48) supporting the roof (12).
