ABSTRACT A safety handle for use with a load binder of the overcentre type having an operating lever comprises a tubular socket which is adapted to receive the operating lever and an extensible handle assembly connected to the socket by a universal pivot. The handle assembly carries a projecting abutment plate which engages the socket when the handle assembly is retracted so as to restrict pivotal movement about the pivot and thus permit securing of the load. When the load binder is released, any load transferred therefrom to the handle assembly upon movement of the operating lever past its overcentre position disengages the abutment plate from the socket and so permits the operating lever to move without the transfer of force to the user.
