SAFETY HELMETS, IN PARTICULAR FOR MOTOR-CYCLISTS Abstract of the Disclosure A safety helmet has a flexible, textile, leather or plastic lining and several air-cushions attached to its interior and connected with one another through air tubes which can be fitted with pressure equalisation delay devices. The air-cushions enclose not only the cranium, but also the cheeks, chin, and back of the neck, and are so arranged that they lie without any intervening non-deformable layer against those parts of the face and skull that they enclose. The helmet also has airfoil-like projections on its exterior such that an airstream exerts practically no upward force on these projec- tions at speeds of up to 50 kilometres per hour, but an upward force equivalent to the total weight of the helmet at speeds of 200 - 250 kilometres per hour.
