A safety hook is provided for mounting to a surface. The safety hook has a base member for mounting to the surface, and an arm member mounted on the base member for pivotal movement between a load bearing position and a load releasing position. The arm member is biased in a first direction towards the load bearing position. When a torque in excess of a threshold torque is applied to the arm member in an opposing second direction, the arm member pivots from the load bearing position towards the load releasing position.
