- 1 - Abstract of the disclosure Pressure-electrolysis apparatuses for the produc- tion of chlorine, alkali metal hydroxide solution and hydrogen, from an aqueous alkali metal chloride solution, require devices for measuring, adjusting and regulating the pressure in the anode chambers (5) and cathode cham- bers (6), if these chambers (5, 6) are separated from one another by an ion-exchange membrane (10). In order to keep the pressure-difference between the two sides of the ion-exchange membrane (10) low even in the event of a spontaneously falling pressure in one of the chambers (5, 6), the anode chambers and the cathode chambers are connected to depressurization ves- sels (43, 44) via depressurizing valves (41, 42), the latter being provided with a differential-pressure instru- mentation and control system.
