ABSTRACT A telescoping high lift safety jack assembly preferably activated by a hydraulic jack and capable of lifting heavy objects from close to the ground to high levels away from the ground. The telescoping feature is basically two coaxial tubular columns, the outer column carrying a height adjustable work engaging support and a detent mechanism to lockably engage the inner column as the hydraulic jack forces the outer column and the load upwards. The base of the hydraulic jack is pivotally located on a base support sleeve which slides on the inner column, is located downwardly from the outer column and also carries a detent mechanism to engage the inner column. With the base support sleeve detent mechanism engaged actuation of the hydraulic jack elevates the outer column detent, the outer column, the load support and thus the load, the outer column locking at several locations as it rises. Release of the hydraulic jack force will permit the springs to draw up the base support sleeve to a new locked position and the process can be repeated. Lowering of the load is accomplished by the reverse process with the detents being locked out of engagement as required.
