The present invention relates to safety joints which permit separation of a downhole assembly at the location of the joint. The invention provides a safety joint characterised by the provision of auxiliary interconnecting means on a body (2) for interconnecting said body (2) to an auxiliary shaft after removal of a main shaft (3) from said body (2). Axial loading between the auxiliary shaft and said body (2) may be thereby transferred. Furthermore, torque may also be transferred between the auxiliary shaft and said body (2) in a direction opposite to that in which torque may be transferred from the main shaft (3) to said body (2). Thus, the present invention allows a length of downhole assembly located above said body (2) to be removed from a wellbore by rotation of said length of assembly in a first direction and then allows rotation of said body (2) in the same first direction by means of the auxiliary shaft in an attempt to remove a length of assembly stuck in the wellbore downhole of said body (2).

L'invention concerne des joints de sûreté qui permettent de séparer un ensemble de fond de trou à l'emplacement du joint. Elle concerne notamment un joint de sûreté caractérisé par l'existence d'un système d'interconnexion auxiliaire disposé sur le corps (2), qui permet de relier ledit corps (2) à un arbre auxiliaire après avoir sorti un arbre principal (3) dudit corps (2). Ceci permet de transférer une charge axiale entre l'arbre auxiliaire et ledit corps (2), ainsi que de transférer le couple entre l'arbre auxiliaire et ledit corps (2) dans une direction opposée à celle dans laquelle le couple peut être transféré depuis l'arbre principal (3) vers ledit corps (2). La présente invention permet donc de sortir d'un trou de forage une longueur d'un ensemble de fond située au-dessus dudit corps (2) en faisant tourner ladite longueur dans une première direction; puis de faire tourner ledit corps (2) dans la même première direction au moyen de l'arbre auxiliaire, afin de sortir une longueur de l'ensemble coincée au fond du forage au-dessous dudit corps (2).
