A safety penetrating instrument for establishing a portal in an anatomical cavity for performing endoscopic procedures includes a penetrating member (50) received within a distally biased portal sleeve (26) for introducing the portal sleeve (26) through a cavity wall into the anatomical cavity, the portal sleeve (26) having a distal end movable between an extended position protecting a sharp tip (56) of the penetrating member (56) and a retracted position exposing the sharp tip (56). A handle (54) is provided manually moving the portal sleeve (26) to the retracted position, and a locking and releasing mechanism (94) locks the portal sleeve (26) in the retracted position and releases the portal sleeve (26) to return to the extended position in response to distal movement of an operating member (112) upon penetration of the safety penetrating instrument into the anatomical cavity, the operating member preferably being carried by the penetrating member (50).
Instrument pénétrant de sécurité destiné à créer une porte dans une cavité anatomique à des fins endoscopiques et comportant un élément pénétrant (50) reçu dans une gaine porte (26) commandée distalement pour permettre l'introduction de cette dernière (26) à travers la paroi d'une cavité anatomique. L'extrémité distale de ladite gaine (26) est mobile entre une position déployée de protection de la pointe acérée (56) de l'élément pénétrant (50) et une position rétractée exposant ladite pointe (56). Une poignée (54) permet de placer manuellement la gaine (26) en position rétractée tandis qu'un mécanisme de blocage/déblocage (94) bloque la gaine (26) en position rétractée ou la relâche en position déployée en réponse à un mouvement distal d'un élément de commande (112) se produisant lors de la pénétration de l'instrument de sécurité dans la cavité anatomique, l'élément de commande (112) étant de préférence porté par l'élément pénétrant (50).
