ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A plastic face shield is detachably and firmly secured to a support mounted on a helmet. The plastic face shield has an elongated slot into which an elongated cam lobe is positioned. The cam lobe is slightly longer than the transverse dimension of the slot so that when the cam is rotated from the loose position to the tight position, it expands the slot slightly, the slot closing back almost to its original dimensions as the lobe cam goes to the locked position. The lobe cam then holds the face shield in taught condition and the contracted slot prevents rotation of the lobe cam so that it remains locked.
