ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A sail batten, seen in transverse sectional view, con- sists of several adjacent cavities for receiving close-fitting inserts. In this manner the stiffness of the batten can be changed gradually, because the inserts in the cavities have a different length. The rod-like inserts are substantially con- stant in cross sectional dimension throughout their length and consequently are easy and cheap to manufacture.
