A SAILING SYSTEM Abstract of the Disclosure This invention is directed to a new form of a sailing system for overcoming some of the outstanding deficiencies in conventional sailing systems. The teachings and practices of this invention lead to a large increase in the propulsive efficiency of sailing systems by reducing the turbulence on the leeward side of the mainsail and, also, allowing a smooth entry for the wind to the leeward side of the mainsail. This is accomplished by rotating the mainmast and spreader with respect to each other and making it possible to rotate the mainmast with- in the spreader. The spreader remains, substantially, stationary as it is supported by the boat rigging and not by the mast. Further, this sailing system employs a soft sail. The soft sail makes it possible to realize greater propulsive efficiency of the sailing system and the soft sail can move around the mast.
