A water soluble dicarboxylic acid acts as a mold release agent for salt blocks when it is sprayed as a fine powder into the block press mold box just prior to a charge of salt. The acid has from 6 to 10 carbon atoms; adipic acid is a preferred release agent. The salt block having a layer of the acid on it surface may be used in water softening systems wherein the block sits in a brine reservoir and supplies salt for the recharging of an ion exchange resin. There is no build up of an unsightly scum on the surface of the brine and on the sides of the reservoir as there has been with the use of calcium stearate as the release agent.
Un acide dicarboxylique hydrosoluble agit comme agent de démoulage pour les blocs de sel lorsqu'il est pulvérisé sous forme de fine poudre dans le moule de la presse à bloc juste avant l'introduction d'une charge de sel. L'acide compte de 6 à 10 atomes de carbone; l'acide adipique est un agent de démoulage de choix. Le bloc de sel dont la surface est enduite d'une couche de l'acide peut être utilisé dans les systèmes d'adoucissement de l'eau où le bloc est déposé dans un réservoir de saumure et fournit du sel pour recharger une résine échangeuse d'ions. On n'observe pas la formation d'une écume inesthétique à la surface de la saumure et sur les parois du réservoir comme c'est le cas avec l'utilisation du stéarate de calcium comme agent de démoulage.
