An avalanche photodiode detector is provided. The avalanche photodiode detector comprises an absorber region (203A, 400A) in a first mesa having an absorption layer (203) for receiving incident photons and generating charged carriers; and a multiplier region (211A, 400B) in a second mesa having a multiplication layer (211); wherein the multiplier region (211A, 400B) is on mesa structure separate from the absorber region (203A, 400A) and is coupled to the absorber region (203A, 400A) by a metal bridge (206A) or a bondwire (403) for transferring charged carriers between the absorber region (203A, 400A) and multiplier region (211A, 400B).

L'invention concerne un détecteur à photodiode à avalanche. Le détecteur à photodiode à avalanche comporte une région absorbante comportant une région d'absorption destinée à recevoir des photons incidents et à créer des porteurs chargés; et une région multiplicatrice comportant une couche de multiplication; la région multiplicatrice se situant sur une structure mésa séparée de la région absorbante et étant couplée à la région absorbante par un pont destiné à transférer les porteurs chargés entre la région absorbante et la région multiplicatrice.
