In novel sampling methods and apparatus, a repetitive waveform is sampled at a sampling phase which alternates at a phase alternation frequency between a fixed reference phase and a variable phase while changing the variable phase progressively and periodically. The amplitude of a component of the resulting signal at the phase alternation frequency is detected to derive a lower frequency analog of the sampled waveform. The sampling methods and apparatus are particularly useful for electro-optic sampling of very high frequency waveforms in semiconductor devices.

La présente invention concerne de nouveaux méthodes et appareils d'échantillonnage, dans lesquels on enregistre un signal répété à une fréquence d'échantillonnage qui alterne avec une fréquence d'alternance de phase entre une phase fixe de référence et une phase variable, la phase variable changeant de manière progressive et périodique. On détecte l'amplitude d'un composant du signal résultant à la fréquence d'alternance de phase afin de calculer une plus basse fréquence analogique du signal enregistré. Ces méthodes et appareils sont particulièrement utiles dans l'échantillonnage électro-optique des signaux de très haute fréquence présents dans des dispositifs à semi-conducteur.
