A sandbag includes a fabric body having two bag walls which are overlying and close at the base and sides to form an open mouth. The closure to retain the sand within the bag is provided in a manner which avoids tying and includes a flap member which is stitched to one bag wall along the top edge and down two side edges and is then folded around the open mouth to lie outside the other bag wall. The depth of the flap member should be no less than half the width of the bag in order to retain the pourable sand material within the bag.
