ABSTRACT A prefabricated laminated insulating material comprising at least two laminations, at least one of which consists of insulating material and preferably fabricated from fibrous waste materials, and the other comprising a substantially rigid support or surface material which also preferably includes waste material such as crushed glass. A method for manufacturing the insulating element is disclosed which includes substantially completely coating pieces of bark in particulate form with only a thin layer of a liquid glue material, placing the coated pieces of bark in a mold which is operative to apply a pressure to the coated pieces and compress the same into an insulating element of desired dimensions. The coated and compressed pieces of bark are unified by applying high frequency electrical energy during the compression step to heat all of the coated bark pieces in the mold substantially simultaneously while pressured is being applied.
