A sanitary sight indicator (10) for viewing the contents of a production process is provided. The sanitary sight indicator includes a body (14), an optical unit (16), and a sanitary connection (18) between the body (14) and the optical unit (16). The body (14) includes a process-interfacing portion (32) which is adapted to interface with the production process and an optical-interfacing portion (30) which interfaces with the optical unit (16). The optical unit (16) includes a viewing portion (50) for viewing the contents of the production process and a body-interfacing portion (56) which interfaces with the optical-interfacing portion (30) of the body (14). The sanitary connection (18) includes a sanitary gasket (20) having a substantially flat annular portion (62), and first and second annular projections (64, 66) which are approximately semi-circular in cross-sectional shape and which extend outwardly from opposite sides of the annular portion (62). The sanitary connection (18) further includes a sanitary-gasket groove (70, 72) in each of the optical unit-interfacing portion (30) and the body-interfacing portion (56). Each of the sanitary-gasket grooves (70, 72) includes a flat surface (74) supporting one of the annular porjections (62) of the sanitarygasket and a channel (76) supporting one of the annular projections (62) of the sanitary gasket (18). Such a sight indicator (10) may be in the form of a "sight flow indicator" for installation in a process line or a "sight window" for installation on a process tank.

La liaison sanitaire (18) comprend en outre une rainure de joint sanitaire (70, 72) dans chacune des unités de liaison optique (30) et dans l'unité de liaison de logement (56). Chacune des rainures du joint sanitaire (70, 72) comprend une surface plate (74), qui supporte une des projections annulaires (62) du joint d'étanchéité sanitaire, et un canal (76), qui supporte une des projections annulaires (62) du joint d'étanchéité sanitaire (18). La présente invention peut prendre la forme d'un débimètre optique destiné à une conduite de transvasement ou la forme d'une fenêtre destinée à un réservoir de traitement.
