In a sanitary water tap in the form of a single tap or a mixer tap with one or more operating levers, especially a single-lever mixer tap with water passages in the form of water inlets and at least one water outlet and with a fittings housing for the control components, especially those integrated into a cartridge, in which the inlet pipes forming the water inlets are connected to the cartridge via an insert adjacent the cartridge, contact between the water flowing through and parts of the fittings consisting of brass alloys containing lead is to be completely prevented. To this end, the water passages (52) are provided on the inside with a waterproof shield (53, 10, 6) consisting of lead-free material acceptable for health reasons to prevent contact with the water flowing through them.
