A yard hydrant (10) of the venturi check valve-fluid reservoir type has a manually operable flow diverter valve (70) which will provide full fluid flow through the hydrant (10) to effectively siphon residual fluid from the reservoir (13) without removal of hoses, backflow preventers or the like from the nozzle (64) of the hydrant. The flow diverter valve (70) is located upstream of the fluid discharge nozzle (64) of the hydrant (10). A tube (48) connects the venturi check valve (32) with the extreme bottom (23) of the reservoir so that all the residual fluid in the reservoir (13) can be removed therefrom.
