A method for language identification from written text, wherein a neural network (20) based language identification system is used to identify the language of a string of alphabet characters among a plurality of languages. A standard set of alphabet characters (22) is used for mapping the string into a mapped string of alphabet characters (10) so as to allow the NN-LID (20) system to determine the likelihood of the mapped string being one of languages based on the standard set (22). The characters of the standard set are selected from the alphabet characters of the language-dependent sets. A scoring system (30) is also used to determine the likelihood of the string being each one of the languages based on the language-dependent sets.

Procédé servant à identifier un langage à partir d'un texte écrit et consistant à utiliser un système d'identification de langage basé sur un réseau neural afin d'identifier le langage d'une chaîne de caractères alphabétiques parmi une pluralité de langages. On utilise un ensemble standard de caractères alphabétiques afin d'établir la cartographie de la chaîne de caractères alphabétiques, de manière à permettre au système NN-LID de déterminer l'éventualité que la chaîne cartographiée fasse partie des langages basé sur l'ensemble standard. Les caractères de cet ensemble standard sont sélectionnés dans les caractères alphabétiques d'ensembles dépendant du langage. On utilise également un système d'évaluation afin de déterminer l'éventualité que la chaîne soit constituée par chacun des langages basés sur les ensembles dépendant du langage.
