ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention provides a composition comprising (a) diethylenetriaminopenta(methylenephosphonic acid) or an alkali metal salt thereof and (b) aminotri(methylenephosphonic acid) or an alkali metal salt thereof wherein the amount of (b) is from 5 to 70 percent of the total weight of (a) and (b). The compositions are useful for the stabilization against precipitation and scaling of alkaline solutions containing potentially scale-forming components.
