Scanning apparatus which may be used in a real-time passive millimetre wavelength imaging system or in other radiometry systems. The apparatus scans input radiation from a scene and output radiation is transmitted to a receiver system, for example a millimetre wave imaging camera or a radar receiver. The apparatus comprises a rotatable reflective plate having an axis of rotation passing through the centre of its surface and a lens arrangement for selectively transmitting and focusing radiation having a particular direction of polarisation. The apparatus may also comprise a feed horn array comprising a plurality of feed horns, the feed horns forming part of a spherical surface having a radius of curvature substantially equal to R/2 and being concentric with the third substantially spherical polarising element. The apparatus may further comprise a detector array comprising a plurality of detector elements. The detector array may form part of a millimetre wave imaging camera.
L'invention concerne un appareil de balayage optique pouvant être utilisé dans un système d'imagerie passif à ondes millimétriques en temps réel, ou dans d'autres systèmes de radiométrie. Cet appareil est destiné à balayer le rayonnement d'entrée émis par une scène et à transmettre le rayonnement de sortie à un système récepteur, par exemple une caméra vidéo à ondes millimétriques ou un récepteur radar. Cet appareil est pourvu d'une plaque réfléchissante rotative dont l'axe de rotation traverse le centre de sa surface, et d'un ensemble à lentille destiné à transmettre et à focaliser de manière sélective tout rayonnement présentant un sens de polarisation spécifique. L'appareil de cette invention peut également comporter un ensemble cornet rayonnant avec plusieurs cornets rayonnants, lesquels font partie d'une surface sphérique dont le rayon de courbure est sensiblement égal à R/2, cette surface étant par ailleurs concentrique par rapport au troisième élément de polarisation sensiblement sphérique. Cet appareil peut également être pourvu d'un ensemble détecteur comprenant plusieurs éléments détecteurs, cet ensemble détecteur pouvant faire partie d'une caméra vidéo à ondes millimétriques.
