ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A scanning automated microscope system is designed as a clinical laboratory instrument which will aid and speed the task of the medical technologist in performing leukocyte differential count and red blood cell morphology studies. The microscope system has automatic stage drive which operates along the x, y, and z axes and an automated cell find system such that the leukocytes on normally prepared Wright stained slides are located automatically along a conventional meander search pattern, the found leukocytes are centered in the field of view, and are focused automatically. These cells can be observed on a color TV monitor and/or through the microscope oculars.
