A lightwave oven (1) having an oven chamber (5), a food support therein, and a lightwave cooking lamp (6) mounted in the chamber (5) so as to be moveable between first and second positions in which radiant energy is directed to respectively first and second distinct areas of the food support. The illuminated lamp (6) is made to repeatedly scan across and thus cook food on the food support.
