ABSTRACT Hydrogen sulfide is removed from a fluid com- prising an oil base mud or at least one organic phase, without adversely affecting the rheology of the fluid, by adding to the fluid a sulfide scavenger selected from the group consisting of zinc hydrosulfite, basic zinc carbonate and calcium hydroxide.
