A method and apparatus for refeeding scrap fibers into a gaseous stream of virgin fibers and mixing the scrap fibers with the virgin fibers to form a mat includes: passing the scrap fibers through a heavy particle trap; applying an anti-static agent to the scrap fibers; opening up and substantially eliminating scrap fiber clumps and nodules with a fiber opener; introducing the scrap fibers from the fiber opener into a scrap fiber conveying air stream, made more laminar by a venturi eductor, by creating a low pressure zone with the venturi eductor to draw the fibers from the fiber opener into the conveying air stream; mixing the scrap fibers with the virgin fibers; and collecting the fiber mixture to form a mat.
