A screen apparatus includes a tank for receiving papermaking material; a cylindrical first screen having a closed end, an open end and a plurality of circumferential first openings partitioning the tank into first and second chambers; an annular second screen adjacent the first screen; and a rotating member in the first chamber. The second screen has second openings in a plate and a large center opening. The rotating member faces the large opening of the second screen and the closed end of the first screen, and includes agitating members facing both screens. When papermaking material is supplied to the first chamber, foreign materials are removed by the first and second screens, and refined papermaking material is discharged through the second chamber.
