ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to screen printing apparatus for applying dye or other coloring material under pressure to pile materials, and particularly to pile carpets and rugs. The invention provides an upper assembly for receiving and containing dye under pressure and a lower assembly capable of receiving the dye under pressure from the upper assembly and applying the same under pressure to pile materials located thereunder. The lower assembly comprises (1) a cylindrical rotatable flow control rod to stop or to resume the receiving of the dye from the upper assembly, and (2) a relatively narrow slot to control the application of the dye under pressure to the pile materials located thereunder. Thus it is possible to uniformly apply dye to relatively thick pile material and to obtain uniform deep color penetration. It is also possible with the inven- tion to precisely and promptly start or stop the flow of dye as desired during intermittent flow conditions.
