Abstract of the Disclosure A screw clamp comprises a pillar, a backing arm and a clamping arm. A clamping part is connected to either or both of the backing arm, the clamping arm or the clamping part. In order to exert a clamping force on surfaces which are not parallel to each other the thrust plate(s) is(are) adjustable to an angle relative to the axis of the pillar. Preferably either the backing arm, or the clamping arm, or both include an arm bearing carrying and an arm shank rotatable in the bearing. The clamp can also be configured to force two surfaces apart, by rotating the arm shanks so that the thrust plate(s) face outwardly.
