The wall (2) of a sheet metal container (1) for the transport and storage of liquid goods features a central filling opening (3), which includes a neck (5) formed at the wall vertically from an upper surface (4) of the wall (2). A ring (6) of plastic or metal with an outer thread (7) is provided on the neck (5), which is pressed from an outwardly rolled upper edge (8) of the neck (5) downwards against the upper surface (4). The thread ring (6) is secured against twisting by means of positively configured connections on the neck (5). A plastic sealing cover (11) is screwed on the thread ring (6) into which a disc-shaped insert (12) of precious steel is pressed. A ring groove (15) for accommodating a sealing ring (16) is moulded into the insert between the outer edge (13) of the cover insert (12) and a ring shoulder (14) of said cover insert (12) by means of which the sealing cover (11) is sealed against the outwardly rolled upper edge (8) of the neck (5).
