ABSTRACT In a terminal screw for the electrical connection of cables or wires, in particular cables or wires provided with ear-shaped cable terminals, said terminal screw comprising a housing (10 and a clamping screw (8) which, in the screw-in direction, penetrates through a first clamping plate (9, 16) and, when the terminal is closed, through a second clamping plate (11), the first clamping plate (9, 16) is arranged to be non- rotatable and axially non-displaceable, whereas the second clamping plate (11) is guided to be non-rotatable and axially displaceable in the housing (10). In the fully open position of the terminal, the second clamping plate (11) abuts against a limit stop of the housing (10) and is held in this position by a resistance which can be overcome by the clamping screw (8), with the result that the opening is kept open for the insertion of the cable or the cable terminal. The clamping screw (8) is screw-connectable in a bore (17) of the first clamping plate (9, 16) until it engages with the second clamping plate (11). In this regard, the bore (17) of the first clamping plate (9, 16) is designed to be without an internal screw thread, and projections (14 or 25) are provided which engage only in the screw threads of the clamping screw (8).
