- 2 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A screw-top closure for a container with an external thread about its opening, especially for bottles, has a guarantee ring of synthetic material which is provided with at least one barb stemming from its inner edge and to which the closure is connected over a breakline which at least partially splits upon am initial opening of the closure and which is spanned by tear off ribs. The closure is characterized in that the guarantee ring is formed as a continuous ring with at least one area of deformation which, upon an initial opening of the closure, is irreversibly distorted.
