The present invention is concerned with a scrubber for removing hydrogen sulphide (H2S) from natural gas using an H2S-scavenging solution. The scrubber comprises an upright cylindrical vessel forming a closed chamber, the vessel having a product outlet at its upper end. A gas feed pipe, extending centrally and longitudinally of the chamber from the upper end of the vessel, delivers gas to the base of the chamber through an outlet formed by the pipe. The feed pipe supports a stack of vertically spaced apart, conical perforated plates that extend radially from the feed pipe to form a narrow annular gap with the sidewall of the vessel. The feed pipe supports a conical imperforate plate located above the outlet and below the stack of perforated plates. Gas entering the vessel through the feed pipe outlet is guided outward by the imperforate plate to be distributed throughout a body of H2S- scavenging solution. The perforated plates act to contain the rising gas and break down large bubbles into fine gas bubbles. Scavenger solution carried upward by the gas returns to the bottom of the vessel by passing through the annular gap.
