The present inventors presumed that the sd1 gene was the C20 oxidase gene, and isolated and identified the rice counterpart of Arbidopsis C20 oxidase gene. As a result, it was revealed that the rice sd1 gene encodes a novel C20 oxidase. Further studies showed that mutation in this gene led to plant semidwarfing. Utilization of the plant sd1 gene is expected to increase the yield of plants, particularly useful agricultural crops and ornamental plants, to add aesthetic value to ornamental plants through dwarfing, and also to increase the yield and efficient breeding of dwarfed plants by marker selection.
Considérant que le gène sd1 est un gène d'oxydase C20, on a isolé et identifié l'homologue de riz du gène d'oxydase C20 d'Arabidopsis. Ainsi, on a pu découvrir que le gène sd1 du riz est gène codé à partir d'un nouveau gène d'oxydase C20. Dans les résultats des études ultérieures, on a constaté de manière évidente que la mutation dans ce gène induit la production de plantes demi-naines. On peut penser de manière très optimiste que l'utilisation d'une plante à gène sd1 entraînerait un accroissement dans la production de plantes d'ornements, un supplément de valeur esthétique par la production de variétés naines, et une augmentation dans la production de marqueurs de sélection et une amélioration efficace des plantes naines.
