ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A high voltage insulator with an effective seal between a suspension mount and a glass fiber reinforced rod of a compound high voltage insulator, obtained by filling the gap with a mixture of polymerisable monomers or polymers formed from two or more reactive components, the mixture having a viscosity prior to polymerisation of less than 100,000 mPa.s and a penetration value between 1-500 mm/10 thereafter. Particularly suitable are polymers based on polyorganodimethylsiloxanes. The polymerised product is incapable of flow and remains sticky.
