ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A seal for reciprocating machine elements, more particularly for sealing piston-rods in hydraulic cylinders, which provides sealing not only at the housing, but also at the reciprocating-machine part, which provides an additional sealing element arranged between the seal and the cylinder pressure-chamber; and which comprises a scraper facing the atmosphere, characterized in that a preceding protective ele- ment is provided, the element having a lip directed towards the oil pressure-chamber, the lip contacting the reciprocating piston-rod and comprising passages which provide a connection between the oil pressure-chamber and the oil-chamber formed between the preceding protective element and the lip-seal.
