A seal ring including a seal collar (1) made of a polymer material which, when used for its intended purpose and viewed in its longitudinal section, is essentially L- shaped, with a fixation section (2) extending essentially in the radial direction and a seal section (3) extending essentially in the axial direction that encloses the surface (4) of the machine element (5) to be sealed off with radial tension, whereby the seal section (3) has at least one return device (6) on the side facing the surface (4) to carry the substance (7) to be sealed off in the direction of the space (8) to be sealed off, whereby the return device (6) has a molded shape (9) whose volume (10) decreases from the space (8) to be sealed off in the direction of the environment (11).
