A B S T R A C T Seal for a machine part that reciprocates and/or can rotate in a plane normal to the axis. The seal includes a statically fixed retaining ring, a guide ring supported upon the retaining ring with a guide surface as well as at least one seal ring of resiliently deformable material, which contacts the guide ring and which has a sealing lip. The sealing lip and the guide surface lie against the moveable machine part, whereby the seal ring and the guide ring contact each other to form a fluid-tight seal. The guide ring also contacts the retaining ring so as to form a seal against fluids which can also be moved at an angle in relation to the axis of the seal.
