An air dryer having a turbosaver valve which prevents the supercharged air from the engine from being discharged through the air dryer. The air dryer comprises a stepped control port bore adapted to slidably receive the turbosaver valve for selectively sealing the control port bore and the air intake bore. The turbosaver valve is intermediate the drying chamber and the purge valve so that the turbosaver valve controls not only the flow of air through the coalescing filter but also the discharge of the purge air and the contaminants. Disposing the turbosaver valve intermediate the drying chamber and the purge valve insures that the compressed air must pass through the coalescing filter in the loading mode while permitting the purge air to by-pass the coalescing filter in the unloading mode. In the loading mode, the compressed intake air forces the turbosaver valve to directly seal the control port bore in order to prevent the compressed air from the intake port from passing downstream of the coalescing filter and contaminating the desiccant filter. In the unloading mode, the turbosaver valve directly seals the air intake port in response to a control signal, allowing the purge valve to be opened without purging the supercharged air from the engine to the atmosphere during the unloading cycle. The turbosaver valve permits the purged air to bypass the coalescing filter which minimizes the back pressure in the desiccant filter to decrease the purge time of the dryer and to increase the efficiency of the air dryer.
La présente invention vise un déshydrateur doté d'une vanne régulatrice de turbocompression qui empêche l'évacuation de l'air de suralimentation du moteur par le déshydrateur. Ce dernier comprend un orifice de commande étagé adapté pour coulisser afin de recevoir la vanne régulatrice de turbocompression et obturer de façon sélective l'orifice de commande étagé et l'orifice d'admission de l'air. La vanne régulatrice de turbocompression est intercalée entre la chambre de déshydratation et la soupape de purge de sorte que la vanne régulatrice de turbocompression ne commande pas uniquement la veine d'air traversant le filtre coalescent mais aussi l'évacuation de l'air purgé et les contaminants. Le montage de la vanne régulatrice de turbocompression entre la chambre de déshydratation et la soupape de purge garantit que l'air comprimé traverse le filtre coalescent en mode de filtration tout en permettant à l'air purgé de court-circuiter le filtre coalescent en mode évacuation. En mode de filtration, l'air d'alimentation comprimé force la vanne régulatrice de turbocompression à obturer directement l'orifice de commande étagé afin d'empêcher l'air comprimé provenant de l'orifice d'admission de l'air de passer en aval du filtre coalescent et de contaminer le filtre déshydratant. En mode évacuation, la vanne régulatrice de turbocompression obture directement l'orifice d'admission de l'air dès la réception d'un signal de commande, ce qui permet l'ouverture de la vanne régulatrice de turbocompression sans qu'il y ait purge de l'air de suralimentation du moteur avant son évacuation dans l'atmosphère. La vanne régulatrice de turbocompression permet à l'air purgé de court-circuiter le filtre coalescent, ce qui permet de réduire à son plus bas niveau la pression de retour à laquelle est soumise le filtre déshydratant pour réduire le temps de purge du déshydrateur et augmenter son efficacité.
