ABSTRACT An annular packing assembly wherein a core ring of elastomeric material having shape memory characteristics is completely embedded in an outer shell member formed of high tensile abrasion resistant material. The outer shell member has a base portion and a head portion including complementary spaced apart lip portions extending laterally from the head portion. The elastomer core is embedded within the head portion of the outer shell member.
