Apparatus for sealing a clearance between a host pipe (2) and a liner pipe (1) which, in use, is fed into the host pipe, comprises a tubular element (3) for connection to or forming a leading end of the liner pipe and a compressible seal (6) which is adapted when compressed longitudinally to expand radially and which, in use, is mounted on the element, the arrangement being such that the seal moves freely with the element in the direction of feeding of the liner pipe but when the liner pipe is retracted counter to the direction of feeding further seal movement is arrested and the seal is compressed longitudinally by the element so that the seal expands radially to engage the internal wall of the host pipe and seal the clearance.

L'appareil selon l'invention permet de colmater un jeu existant entre un conduit de réception (2) et un conduit de chemisage (1), celui-ci venant, en utilisation, s'insérer dans celui-là. Cet appareil comporte un élément tubulaire (3), destiné à se raccorder au conduit de chemisage ou bien à en constituer l'extrémité antérieure, ainsi qu'un joint compressible (6), conçu pour s'allonger sur un plan radial lorsqu'il est comprimé dans le sens de la longueur et qui, en utilisation, est monté sur l'élément tubulaire. Un tel agencement fait que le joint se déplace librement avec l'élément dans le sens de la progression du conduit de chemisage mais que ce mouvement cesse lorsque le conduit de chemisage se retire dans la direction opposée; le joint, qui est alors comprimé dans le sens de la longueur par ledit élément, s'allonge sur un plan radial pour venir au contact de la paroi intérieure du conduit de réception et, partant, colmater le jeu.
