Abstract of the Disclosure The invention relates to resilient sealing bodies of flexible fibrous heat resistant material. Such bodies are used on either hori- zontal or vertical sealing surfaces in high temperature applications. The fibrous materials of the sealing bodies are compressed and retained in the compressed state with suitable flexible holding means. The bodies are suitable for the replacement of horizontal sand seals in high temperature usage and may be used equally well in applications which are impractical for sand seals, such as vertical and overhead applications. The sectional construction and flexibility of the sealing bodies permit their ready application and adjustment to give the optimum degree of sealing action as required in high temperature equipment.
