ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A sealing device is provided for an annular interspace between a bore in a housing and a rotatable member such as a shaft disposed in the bore. The device includes a flexible, elongated body with a longitudinal recess, which body firmly engages the surface defining the bore. Two plates, with a form corresponding to that of the interspace, have profiles such that they can be pushed into the recess. When positioned in the recess, the plates define a channel between them. A sealing member is fitted into the channel so that it engages the rotatable member. Preferably the elongated body, the plates, and the sealing member are each formed from two separate halves whose ends meet in a diametrical plane through the member.
