A device for forming a seal around an elongate object (3) comprises: a) a sealing plate (21) having a hole (23) through which the object (3) can pass, and containing a chamber (25) in communication with the said hole (23); b) a pressure plate (27) positioned within and movable relative to the chamber; and c) a sealing material (33) positioned within the chamber (25) such that when the elongate object (3) passes, in use, through the hole (23) in the sealing plate (21), the sealing material (33) is positioned between the pressure plate (27) and the elongate object (3), wherein the pressure plate (27) can be moved, in use, towards the object (3) in a direction transversely of the object (3), to urge the sealing material into sealing contact with the object (3).

Ce dispositif destiné à former une étanchéité autour d'un objet de forme allongée (3) comprend: a) une plaque d'étanchéité (21) dotée d'un trou (23) au travers duquel on peut passer l'objet (3), et contenant une chambre (25) communiquant avec ledit trou (23); b) une plaque d'appui (27) placée à l'intérieur de la chambre et que l'on peut déplacer par rapport à cette chambre; et c) un matériau d'étanchéité (33) disposé à l'intérieur de la chambre (25) de telle façon que l'orsqu'on fait passer l'objet de forme allongée (3) au travers du trou (23) de la plaque d'étanchéité (21), le matériau d'étanchéité (33) soit placé entre la plaque d'appui (25) et l'objet de forme allongée (3), ce qui permet, lors de son utilisation, de déplacer la plaque d'appui (27) vers l'objet (3) dans une direction transversale par rapport à l'objet (3), afin de forcer le matériau d'étanchéité à assurer un contact d'étanchéité autour de l'objet (3).
