A novel method for sealing a plastic closure to a container flange using an elastomeric gasket (60). A plurality of annular sealig bands (40) are positioned on the diametric sealing surface of the closure (10) on which the gasket (60) rests. As the closure (10) is threaded into the container (50), the annular sealing bands (40) become embedded within the gasket (60) to improve the seal and overcome the negative sealing effects of the parting line flash present on the closure portion of the seal gland as a result of the manufacturing process.

L'invention concerne un nouveau procédé pour joindre hermétiquement une fermeture plastique à un rabat de récipient au moyen d'un joint élastomère. Plusieurs bandes de scellement annulaires sont placées sur la surface d'étanchéité diamétrique de la fermeture sur laquelle repose le joint. La fermeture étant vissée dans le récipient, les bandes de scellement annulaires sont alors solidaires du joint, ce qui améliore le joint d'étanchéité et permet de surmonter les effets d'étanchéité négatifs de bavures linéaires de joints de la partie fermeture de la garniture d'étanchéité du fait du processus de fabrication.
