An improved sealing thermostat for vehicle cooling systems includes a circular flange having a generally circular opening for the passage of fluid therethrough. A pair of bridges span the opening on opposed sides of the flange. A temperature sensitive valve means includes a gin contacting the underside of one of the bridges at one end and is extendibly housed within the body of the valve at the other end. The body in turn contains the temperature sensitive extender for extending the pin. A valve disc is rigidly attached to the body and seats in the opening in the flange when the pin is retracted relative to the body. A spring acts between the valve disc and the others of the bridges to urge the valve disc into sealing engagement with the opening. The opening in the flange has a first center and the flange has a second center and the first and second centers are offset so that the opening is closer to one edge of the flange on one side than it is on the other. The flange further includes a sealing lip formed integrally with the flange around an outer periphery, the sealing lip in use being pressed against a gasket between two housings to form a liquid-tight seal therewith.
