A gas tight seal comprises a retaining means adapted to be mounted on a partition to surround a rotary component where it penetrates the partition. A pair of annular floating members are located in axially spaced appart relationship by said retaining means. Sealing means are provided between the inner periphery of the floating members and the rotary component, these sealing means being arranged to make sealing engagement with the rotary component when liquid under pressure is introduced into the space between the floating members.
