Abstract When cigarettes or cigars are smoked it is known they produce second-hand smoke. Second-hand smoke is excess smoke from the cigarette or cigar not inhaled by the smoker and second- hand smoke is also smoke exhaled by the person smoking. In this invention the cigarette or cigar is inserted into a casing with a hole the size of the cigarette or cigar. The casing is preferrably divided into two chambers but may only have one. The hole the cigarette or cigar is inserted into leads to one chamber, a spout leads to the second chamber, or in the instance of a single chamber casing it leads to the same chamber as the cigarette. The casing has holes in the cigarette or cigar chamber to provide oxygen for combustion of the cigarette or cigar. These holes are covered by filters to filter any excess smoke particles produced by the burning cigarette or cigar. These filters can be various media from activated carbon to glass fibre to porous plastic or combinations of these or other known filter media. The second chamber of the casing is filled with filter. Smoke exhaled from the smoker is directed through the spout into the second chamber filled with filter. This filters the smoke particles from the exhaled breath. In the instance of a single chamber casing the filters that filter the excess smoke produced by the cigarette or cigar also filter the exhaled breath.
