- 36 - Abstract In a secondary battery equipped with a non-aqueous electrolyte including lithium; this invention is characterized by that a negative electrode is composed of a carbon material having a lattice spacing by X-ray diffraction (d002) ranging from 3.35 to 3.40 .ANG., both a size of crystallite in a-axis direction (La) and a size of crystallite in c-axis direction (Lc) of 200 .ANG. or larger, and a true density ranging from 2.00 to 2.20 g/cm3. Thereby, a secondary battery excellent in its cycle characteristic and self-discharge characteristic and having a high energy density can be provided.
