The cell is comprised of opposed positive and negative electrodes of polymers, each having conjugated double bonds, such as polyacetylene, poly-phenylene, poly- thienylene and polypyrrole, and an electrolyte solution comprising an electrolyte dissolved in a nitrile compound interposed between the two electrodes.
